A warm Nenagh welcome at Amy’s
A new chapter recently began at Amy’s Hair Salon in Nenagh, which has undergone extensive refurbishment while still retaining its renowned sense of welcome.
This October, proprietor Amy Cleary will celebrate the tenth anniversary of opening her business on Kickham St. She has over the years built it up to become one of the best-known hair salons in Nenagh, attracting customers from a very wide surrounding area.
Originally from Holycross, Amy previously worked in Nenagh at Tina Hickey’s hairdressing salon. Before that she worked at Mary's in Borrisoleigh, and also at salons in Cashel and Tipp Town.
She has been hairdressing for 19 years, having followed a lifelong dream to run her own business in the sector. Amy started out working Saturdays at a hairdressing shop in Cashel. She completed a formal training course in Templemore before going to add two MAs with leading brands Wella and Alfaparf.
Amy is joined in her Nenagh premises by Odette Grace. Hairdressing for 12 years, Odette completed her formal training in Waterford, achieved Retail Ambassador status with Alfaparf, and arrived at Amy’s in Nenagh in 2021.
Together at Amy’s, they provide the full gamut of hairdressing services, from 12-week blow-drys to hair extensions, and every kind of cut imaginable. Customers come to the bespoke Nenagh hairdressing salon to have their hair personalised to their specific needs and desires. Whether a Specialised Curly Cut is needed to show off juicy curls, Low Maintenance colour or a complete transformation to show off your creative edge, Amy and Odette can cover all eventualities!
‘PERSONAL TOUCH’
One of Amy’s clients spoke of why she has become a regular at the salon over the years. She mentioned the “personal touch” of Amy and Odette, both of whom go out of their way to ensure their customers feel welcome and comfortable in the salon – even going as far as to provide a hot water bottle for those who want one!
They know their customers’ hair and afford everyone an attentional to detail that simply cannot be found in busier salons in cities.
“Welcoming, gracious and helpful,” was how this client summed up Amy and Odette, as the former cut her hair last week. “A sign of a good hairdresser is someone that customers will confide in. It’s a lot more than getting your hair cut and coloured.”
Amy agreed that her salon in many ways serves a dual purpose as a “social centre”, a place where customers can come to chat and have some banter at their ease.
LOCAL ENTERPRISE
The premises recently underwent an extensive revamp in a successful joint enterprise of local traders. Philly Burke carried out the primary renovation, Ger Gavin’s put in a new floor, the sinks were provided by Slattery’s, the paint by Albany Décor and the accessories by Black Box Framing Gallery, while Diarmuid Grace did the signage.
Amy wanted to keep the whole enterprise as local as possible, and she is delighted with the outcome. Her new salon is bright, spacious and modern while still holding onto that intimate, welcoming vibe. It has not lost touch either with neighbouring premises The Beauty Vault, with which Amy’s maintains its close collaboration.
Thanking all for their involvement, Amy wanted to particularly thank her customers for their support over the years. She and Odette look forward to savouring many more Nenagh welcomes at the new-look premises in the years ahead.
Amy’s is open from Tuesday to Saturday with late opening hours (7-9pm) on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Phone (067) 64394 for appointment, or they encourage customers to use their 24hr booking app as an easier means of securing appointments.
Note also that Amy is looking to hire another hairdresser – qualification and experience essential. Check out the salon’s Facebook and Instagram pages for further details.
