Four world-class trad musicians in Nenagh

Four world-class traditional musicians/singers take to the stage in Dún Mhuire, Nenagh, on Friday, March 14 – Elaine Cormican, Richard Lucey, Eoin Coughlan and Nenagh-born maestro, Brian Morrissey.

Elaine Cormican is a renowned singer and flute/whistle player from Galway and a member of the all-female trad supergroup Líadan. She released her debut solo album Cluain Amhráin in 2014 to critical acclaim. Elaine has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, most notably on tour a number of years ago with the legendary Chieftains, culminating in Carnegie Hall, New York on St Patrick’s Day.

Apart from being a performer on the world stage, Elaine is also a much sought-after tutor and while growing up in Co Galway, she took part in Fleadhanna Cheoil and won a number of All-Ireland titles for Irish and English singing.

Richard Lucey’s accordion playing is steeped in the traditions of West Cork and his interpretation of Sliabh Luachra music is unrivalled. He has performed and toured with many groups and ensembles, including Altan, North Cregg and Celtic Steps. Richard hails from Inchigeela, Co Cork and collaborates regularly with guitar wizard Jim Murray (Sharon Shannon/Séamus Begley) and vocalist, Fiona Kelleher. Richard is delighted to perform again in the heart of accordion country in North Tipperary.

Eoin Coughlan is a gifted guitarist, bodhrán player and singer/songwriter from Cork and a former member of trad powerhouse, NOMOS. He has performed and recorded with many artists, including John Carty, Damien Dempsey, Gemma Hayes, Paddy Casey and Pat Shortt.

OARS ON RTÉ

His critically acclaimed debut solo album Blood in Vein was released in 2007 and he recently released a duo album entitled The Oars with long-time collaborator, Brian Morrissey. The Oars will feature on an upcoming RTÉ documentary about the legendary song 'After All' from Cork band The Frank and Walters. The Oars will also join Damien Dempsey for his upcoming Irish tour in April and will perform in Thomond Park, Limerick on Friday, May 9, as guests of Munster Rugby.

Brian Morrissey is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer. The Nenagh native has recorded on over 40 albums with legendary artists such as Donal Lunny, John Spillane, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin (RIP), Kevin Crawford, Niall, Cillian & Caoimhín Vallely, Luka Bloom and Nathan Carter. Brian created and produced the stage show Pulses of Tradition, which featured on The Late Late Show and on Gradam Ceoil TG4, played to audiences in China and around Europe and held a residency in Cork’s Triskel Christchurch for four years.

Brian established The Oars with Eoin Coughlan in recent years and is also a member of the ground-breaking traditional groups Buille, Fiddlesticks (led by Liz Doherty) and TarantaCeltica. Brian is the founding director of The Lee Sessions, a Cork City Council initiative, designed to support the continued development of traditional Irish music in the city. He is thrilled to be back to perform in his home town with three phenomenal musicians/singers.

A wonderful night’s music and entertainment is in store for all in attendance on Friday, March 14.
