Nenagh Centre of Excellence land deal 'very close'
Land acquisition for the planned Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Energy in Nenagh is "very close", local councillors were informed.
Briefing the February meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, Project Manager Paul Crowe said preliminary design is underway at present and negotiations with the landowner are "moving in a positive manner". An exact location on Martyrs Road for the €12.7 million project would be confirmed in the coming weeks, he said.
The formal planning process would begin later in the year and Mr Crowe expected a contractor onsite by the end of 2026. A 12 to 18-month construction timeframe is envisaged for both the energy building and public realm.
Cllr Séamie Morris said the council could do nothing without acquiring the land. Mr Crowe said land purchase is "very close" and the landowner is excited about the project.
Cathaoirleach, Cllr Fiona Bonfield described the project as a "gamechanger for the town of Nenagh" and said there is a lot of excitement about it.
