Busy times at Borrisokane Community College
Home Economics
Our Second and Fifth Year Home Economics students had the fantastic opportunity to hear from guest speakers from the Tipperary ETB Apprenticeship, Further Education & Training Centre in Archerstown, Thurles last week. Fergal Phelan, commis chef instructor, wowed students with a demo on caramelised bananas with buttermilk pancakes and mascarpone cream. Niamh Lynch, the fashion and design instructor of the Fashion Design QQI Level 5 course, shared valuable insights on fashion design and sustainability. This is greatly linked to strand three of the Junior Cycle Home Economics course - Textiles and Craft. Our students thoroughly enjoyed both guest speakers.
As well as that, TY students Lily and Grace were lucky to have Fergal assist them in preparing for the All Ireland TY Young Cooks Competition Final. Fergal worked alongside them, cooking their dishes and offering helpful tips and advice to perfect their skills ahead of the big day. The final will take place in Cavan in April.
Waltons Music Group
Congratulations to our Walton’s Music Group and teacher, Ms Lisa Duffy, on receiving ‘Very Highly Commended’ in the RTÉ Lyric FM Waltons Music for Schools Competition.
U14 Tennis
Our U14 Munster Tennis boys Cup team put up a good fight last Monday and lost on tie break to Ardscoil na Mara, Tramore. Many thanks to Borrisokane Tennis Club for the use of their new sand covered tennis courts. Best of luck to the team in their next match against De La Salle Waterford
U14 Rugby
The U14 Rugby squad played in a Munster School Blitz on Thursday in Nenagh Ormond RFC. Training will take place on Friday, March 21, ahead of the next blitz day in Thomond Park on March 26. Thanks you to Nathan for coaching the group.
