O'Sullivan Beare's epic march through Tipp

Lorrha Dorrha Archaeological & Historical Society will host a lecture by David Broderick on Donal O’Sullivan Beare on Friday, March 21, in The Friar’s Tavern (E45 V651), Lorrha, at 8pm.

After the devastating loss at the Battle of Kinsale and fall of his former strongholds in West Cork, Donal O'Sullivan Beare gathered his followers and fighting men and set off northwards on a 500-kilometre march with 1,000 people, starting on December 31, 1602.

David Broderick will deliver an illustrated presentation that will include contemporary and local folklore accounts of O'Sullivan's epic March. He will also highlight some of the remaining sites in the landscape that still hold a memory of O'Sullivan's route northwards.

Admission to the presentation is €5. No booking required. Contact 087 2031798/086 3308172 for queries.
