Thailand cave rescuer returns to Nenagh

Diving Ireland Expo at the Abbey Court this weekend

Cave diver Jim Warny has been added to the bill for Diving Ireland Expo 2025 and will be making a making welcome return to Nenagh this weekend.

Jim held a capacity audience enthralled at the Abbey Court Hotel in 2019 when he spoke of his role in the incredible rescue of 12 boys and their football coach from Thailand's Tham Luang cave the previous year. His talk was part of Diving Ireland Expo, the national convention of the governing body for recreational underwater sports in Ireland, which is being hosted in Nenagh again this year by the local Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club.

Jim Warny has just been added to lineup of speakers. This time, on Sunday at 11am, he will be talking about how he prepares for the exploration of dark cave systems in Ireland.

His is one of a series of talks taking place over the weekend, which also involves a huge trade show, a new underwater photography exhibition and display of local crafts. There will be a raffle too with some fantastic prizes to be won, and everyone who pays in to the event will be entered into a draw for a holiday on the Red Sea in Egypt.

Members of Lough Derg SAC were selling raffle tickets at Applegreen Birdhill last Sunday. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to buy tickets and thanks to Applegreen Birdhill for accommodating us.

We would also like to thank everyone who contributed prizes, as well as all of our sponsors of this event. Local sponsors include The Peppermill, Hibernian Inn, Jenny's Kitchen, Williamsferry B&B, Clare Street B&B and Jack Bayly, Farm Navigator.

Diving Ireland Expo takes place at the Abbey Court Hotel this Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30.
