Nenagh Arts Centre hosts Don Baker gig

“The greatest harmonica player in the world” returns to Nenagh Arts Centre

Nenagh Arts Centre is thrilled to have the musical powerhouse that is Don Baker return to their stage on Saturday, April 12, at 8pm. This very special show promises to be an intimate and one-of-a-kind blues experience with never-before heard tales from Don’s life.

A young 70 with 55 years on the road, Don Baker has had an amazing career. Harmonica player, singer-songwriter and actor, he has headlined with Tom Jones and Van Morrison, acted opposite Daniel Day Lewis in the Oscar nominated ‘In the Name of the Father’ and been declared by Bono of U2 as “the greatest harmonica player in the world!”

Born and bred in Dublin, Don Baker first learnt to play harmonica as a young lad in hospital recovering from a bout of TB.

While convalescing, unable to go out like the other boys of his age, he immersed himself in The Blues and most especially Blues Harmonica. Don was struck with inspiration from listening to the recordings of Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin’ Wolf.

Fifty-five years on and Don is still immersed, still listening, still performing to the songs of blues legends and adding to the blues canon with songs and compositions of his own. He has developed his talent from musician to gifted songwriter in his own right.

In 2022 Don released his first ever collection of harmonica instrumentals, recorded by him over the last 40 years, and had his life story told through TG4’s award winning documentary series, Finné.

Zyx Music Germany have now signed a two album licence for part of Don’s back catalogue which now has international distribution.

Don Baker - ‘My Story’ is Don’s first solo tour where he will share tales of 55 years On the Road, Life in the Inner City, his love of The Blues and of the Harmonica, Stories of his working with Jim Sheridan, Daniel Day Lewis, Sinead O'Connor and more. Together with the story of his songs on harmonica and guitar, this is a tour not to be missed.

The legendary performances by this consummate entertainer have engaged, enchanted and charmed audiences for more than 55 years! That is Don Baker.

The Nenagh Arts Centre and Don Baker invite you to a night you’ll never forget.
