Launch of Nenagh's Darkness Into Light May 10 walk in aid of Pieta
By Brendan Murphy
This year’s Darkness Into Light campaign in Nenagh got off to a great start at this year’s official launch day on Saturday, March 22, in the Tourist Office.
The event, which takes place at 4.15am on May 10, has been extremely well supported over the years. This marks the 10th anniversary of the Darkness Into Light event in Nenagh.
As the sun rises on May 10, thousands of people from all over the world will join together in a powerful movement to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Darkness into light is more than just a walk - it’s a symbol of hope, solidarity, and resilience.
The Nenagh committee are busy behind the scenes preparing for this year’s event.
The support that the event has received to date has been amazing - from local businesses donating food and refreshments to volunteers offering to help out. Over 2,000 people take part in the darkness into dawn walk every year.
This year we are very fortunate to welcome some new committee members to the Darkness Into Light team.
It is always good to have some new faces on the committee who bring about new energy and fresh ideas.
We are planning on making some subtle changes to this year’s event, which will include more areas of reflection with more displays of candles and some choir singing from our local choir group Misneach, and local singer Collie Hogan.
Darkness Into Light is a great community event where we walk united to raise awareness for mental health, to send a message to those who are in need of help that they are not alone.
It is also a night of remembrance for those who we have sadly lost through suicide.
This year’s Darkness Into Light walk on Saturday May 10 will depart at 4.15am from the Scouts Hall, Nenagh.
