The fundraising walk will benefit Bishop John Ryan’s work in the Diocese of Mzuzu in Northern Malawi.

Michael Sutton Memorial Walk

Upperchurch hosts event on Saturday

The Michael Sutton Memorial Walk will be held in Upperchurch on Saturday, April 5. Registration will be from 11.30am. There will be four walks ranging from challenging to buggy friendly. The walks will be followed by food and music. This event is being supported by Kinnanes Bar and John G O’Dwyer and the Mid Tipp Hillwalkers.

This fundraising event is to support the work of Bishop John Ryan in improving primary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Mzuzu in Northern Malawi. It is being done through the Heart to Hand Charity. Last year a group of tradesmen travelled to Malawi to roof houses and build classrooms. The following people are planning to travel to Malawi in July this year to continue with this work: Stephen Dwan, David Kearney, Philip Ryan, Eamon Cornally, Joe Bourke and Josephine Phelan.

Bishop John Ryan, who is originally from Cormackstown, has been in Malawi for over 40 years working in parishes and also as Professor of Maths in Mzuzu University. He has done tremendous work in improving the lives of vulnerable people including the setting up of an NGO, Ungweru.

The people travelling to Malawi will work in partnership with the Diocese Education Unit and with the local people. Please support this worthwhile project.
