Claret Jug Tour for Clonmel and Portumna
Golf Ireland has announced the arrival of the iconic Claret Jug to Clonmel and Portumna Golf Clubs as part of ‘The Road to The Open’ initiative.
The two-week tour, which began last Friday in Newtownards, Co. Down, will visit clubs and groups across the island of Ireland, ahead of The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in July.
The trophy will visit Clonmel Golf Club next Monday, 7th April from 2.00-3.30pm while the following day it will be in Portumna Golf Club from 9.30-11.00am.
Golf clubs hosting the Claret Jug will each enjoy a 90-minute event, providing attendees with an opportunity to take photographs alongside one of golf’s most historic trophies.
Golf Ireland’s Club Support Officers and local Golf in the Community Officers will be in attendance, while clubs are creating inclusive and engaging opportunities to build excitement and community spirit around their visit.
“We are thrilled to partner with The R&A to bring the Claret Jug, one of the most revered trophies in sport, directly to communities around Ireland,” said Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly.
