Roscrea’s Lee helps Ireland qualify for World Cup

By Gary Culbert

Roscrea native Brody Lee was part of the Republic of Ireland squad that qualified for the Under-17 World Cup last week.

Brody featured during the most recent trio of qualifiers against Belgium, Poland and Iceland as Ireland booked their passage to the World Cup which takes place in Qatar in November. Prior to that, the Killavilla United academy graduate opened the scoring in the first set of qualifiers last October against Lithuania.

Brody is currently in Transition Year, which suits well in terms of being able to commit a bit more time to his football with Ireland under-17s, but also at club level with Shamrock Rovers under-17s.

Brody has great support from the town of Roscrea and indeed the whole of the football community around North Tipperary. However, his biggest supporter is his father, councillor Shane Lee, who travelled to Poland to support his son during the qualifying campaign.

The Roscrea native has had a keen eye for an international goal ever since scoring for the Republic of Ireland on his debut against Croatia in October 2022.
