Win a House Fundraiser
As we enter the final stages of our Win a House fundraiser, we are encouraging as many people as possible to logon to www.winahouse.ie and purchase your ticket. The draw will take place on Saturday, April 12th, and will see one lucky person win a state of the art house in Cashel or €300,000 in cash.
Allianz Hurling League Final
Tipperary will play Cork in the Allianz Hurling League Final, this Sunday at 4.00pm in SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
There have been five previous League final meetings between Cork and Tipperary, with the Rebels winning three and the Premier county claiming two titles. Overall, the counties have met on 68 occasions in the League, with Cork ahead on 33 wins to Tipperary's 29, and there have been six draws.
The record attendance for a League final between these Munster rivals was set in 1953, when 38,912 witnessed Cork's win, at Croke Park.
Tipperary have won the League on nineteen occasions, while Cork have been successful fourteen times.
Tipperary's John Doyle holds the record for most League wins, with eleven medals to his credit.
We wish the team and management the very best of luck and we all know that they will give everything they have in an effort to bring the silverware back to Tipperary.
Under 20 Hurling
Our under 20 hurlers opened their Munster Championship campaign against Limerick last Tuesday, and had to give way, 2-13 to 0-17.
Having reached last years All Ireland Final and having a number of current senior panellists on the team, this was a disappointing result for everyone concerned, but that said they will be doing everything possible to turn their fortunes around and get back to winning ways when they travel to Pairc Ui Chaoimh this Wednesday evening to play Cork.
Under 20 Football
Having secured maximum points from their three phase 1 games, scoring a massive 5-40, our under 20 footballers have qualified for phase 2 where they play Kerry, Clare, and Cork. The first of those games took place on Tuesday of this week when they played Kerry in New Inn. At the time of writing there was no result for this game.
See www.nenaghguardian.ie for report.
Next Tuesday, 8th April they host Clare with venue to be confirmed.
Minor Hurling
Our Minor Hurlers welcomed Waterford to FBD Semple Stadium last Friday for round 1 of the Munster Championship.
Having prepared diligently since the beginning of the year, it was anticipated that Tipperary would hit the ground running, however, as can often be the case at underage level, things just didn’t seem to spark as Waterford had the best of the exchanges for the most part. In the end they won by 1-16 to 0-17. See match report.
Next Saturday, they play Clare in Ennis at 2.00pm.
Minor Football
Our Minor Footballers commence their Munster Championship campaign next Monday, 7th April at 7.00pm in Fethard Town Park, where they will play Waterford in Phase 1 Round 1. Tickets are on sale on the Munster GAA website, while tap & go will also be in operation at the game. We wish the players and team management the very best of luck.
Third Level Award
Congratulations to Tipperary and Moyne-Templetuohy’s Gearoid O’Connor who has been named as the 2025 Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars Hurling Player of the Year. Gearoid demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment throughout the season, culminating in his UL side claiming the Fitzgibbon Cup title yet again.
The late Aoife Shelly
It was with great sadness and disbelief that we learned of the sudden and tragic passing of Aoife Shelly on Sunday evening.
At only 22 years of age, Aoife was the heart and soul of so much and her loss will be felt by so many for a long time. Coming from a strong Gaelic Games background in Clonakenny, Aoife was heavily involved with the Moyne-Templetuohy Ladies Football club and only a few short months ago, played a pivotal role in the clubs Junior ‘A’ county final win.
Aoife also played Camogie with Templemore where she was a valued member of all the teams she was played for.
Off the field, Aoife was one of the nicest young girls that one could have had the privilege of knowing, her bubbly and friendly personality always shone true, and she always seemed to have a smile on her face and a welcoming word.
She was a regular worker in Guilfoyle’s shop in Templetuohy and will be so dearly missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing her over many years.
We express our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to the Moyne-Templetuohy LGFA, Templemore Camogie, and Clonakenny GAA clubs who will miss her so dearly. But most of all we sympathise with Aoife’s mam Claire, her father Joe, her beloved brother Eoghan, along with the extended Shelly and Hassett families at this most difficult time for them all.
May Aoife’s beautiful and pleasant soul rest in eternal peace.
