Motorway closed due to major blaze

Fire crews from Nenagh, Newport, Limerick City and Cappamore are all at the scene of a major blaze between Birdhill and the Castletroy turn-offs.

The M7 Limerick to Dublin motorway is closed in both directions between J28 Castletroy and J25 Nenagh due to thick black smoke from gorse smokes making travelling conditions treacherous.

Motorists are urged to take alternative routes.

A garda spokesperson said: "We are aware of gorse fires affecting visibility and traffic along the route. We understand local fire services are currently at the scene."
