Junior 'A' Hurling League
Group 1 of the North Junior 'A' Hurling League commenced last week.
Kiladangan and Nenagh Eire Og played out a 1-16 to 2-13 draw in Puckane.
Nenagh Éire Óg held a 2-7 to 0-8 lead at half time, thanks to a late first-half scoring burst of 1-5 without reply, both Eire Og goals were scored by Cian O'Farrell. Kiladangan responded strongly after the break, with Ruairí Gleeson finding the top corner to reduce the deficit. Éire Óg maintained a three-point cushion entering the final ten minutes, but late points from Neil Cahalan (2) and Bryan McLoughney secured a draw for Kiladangan.
On Saturday in Newport, Silvermines came away with the victory over the home side, 4-13 to 1-18.
Silvermines got off to a flying start with a first-minute goal from Ronan Cunneen. A further goal from Cathal Treacy helped the home side to a half-time lead of 2-6 to 1-6. In the second half, Treacy added another goal, while Daniel Ryan also found the net to seal a four-point victory for the Mines. Strong performances for the victors came from Cathal Treacy and Eddie Ryan throughout.
Round 2 will take place on Saturday 19th April at 6.00pm - Kiladangan host Ballinahinch whilst Silvermines host Nenagh Eire Og with Newport having the Round 2 bye.
Group 2 will commence on the same evening with Toomevara hosting Kilruane MacDonaghs and Borris-Ileigh hosting Roscrea.
Junior 'B' Hurling League
Group 1 of the North Junior 'B' Hurling League commenced last weekend.
On Friday, Kilruane MacDonaghs had an impressive 1-22 to 1-12 victory over Knockshegowna in Ballingarry. Kilruane led 0-11 to 0-7 at half time and extended their lead to seven points by the 47th minute. A Knockshegowna goal from a free on 51 minutes cut the gap to four, but Kilruane responded impressively with 1-3 without reply to secure a ten-point win. Top performers for Kilruane included Cathal McIntyre (0-4), Johnny Naughnane (1-3), and Fiachra Ahearne Woods (0-3).
Moneygall had a 0-15 to 1-9 victory away to Roscrea last Saturday. There was nothing to separate the sides at half time with the score level at 0-6 apiece. In a tight second half, Moneygall’s greater accuracy from play saw them edge out Roscrea by three points, winning 0-15 to 1-9.
Lorrha completed three victories from three for the away teams in the group last Sunday with a 0-14 to 0-13 victory against Borrisokane. Lorrha took a 0-8 to 0-4 lead into half time and held off a second-half comeback from Borrisokane to win by the narrowest of margins.
Round 2 will take place on Sunday 20th April at 12 noon - Moneygall host Borrisokane, Kilruane MacDonaghs host Shannon Rovers and Lorrha will host Knockshegowna.
Group 2 will commence on Saturday, 3rd May with Kiladangan hosting Toomevara, Burgess hosting Ballina and Portroe hosting Templederry Kenyons.
North Championship Draws
The North CCC will hold the North Hurling Championship Draws on Wednesday, 9th April at 8.00pm in The Hibernian Inn Nenagh. Club's are invited to send one delegate each to the draw. The draws will be posted to the North Tipperary GAA social media pages as they happen.
Sympathy
The North Board wish to express sympathy to the family and friends of Matt Hassett who passed away recently. Matt was life president of the North Board and held the role of North Secretary from 1964 to 1969. At the time of his passing, the Toomevara native was also President of Toomevara GAA and Tipperary GAA Boards. The North Board also wish to express sympathy to North Chairperson Brendan Shanahan and his wife Catherine on the sad passing of Catherine's father Dick Freeman (Portroe). May they rest in peace.
