Nenagh school leading the way in STEM

St Mary’s Primary School recently showcased its commitment to STEM education as three of its Sixth Class pupils competed in the prestigious Analog Devices Robotics Semi-Final at Limerick Racecourse.

This exciting journey began during Engineering Week when the entire Sixth Class took part in a hands-on LEGO Robotics workshop delivered by Analog Devices. As part of the workshop, students built and programmed a LEGO Bluetooth grabber, gaining invaluable experience in engineering, coding and problem-solving.

Following this engaging introduction to robotics, three talented pupils - Ruby Armstrong, Ciara Grimes and Slavica Pazin - were selected to represent St Mary’s in the Munster semi-final. Competing against schools from across the province, the girls delivered an outstanding performance and received top marks for their showcase piece, a submerged-themed project designed and created by all Sixth Class students in Mrs McAvinchey’s class.

At the competition, the team demonstrated their ability to work under pressure while programming EV3 robots with impressive precision and efficiency. Their creativity, teamwork and technical skills were highly praised by event organisers and judges. Although they narrowly missed out on a place in the finals, their dedication and innovation were evident throughout the event.

Congratulations to the entire Sixth Class for their hard work and creativity. The future of STEM is certainly bright at St Mary’s!
