UCI Continental’s Paul Kennedy of Team Skyline was the winner of race one of the inaugural North Tipp Wheelers TT Series on Thursday.

North Tipperary Wheelers launch Time Trial Series

North Tipperary Wheelers commenced the first of a six-week series of Time Trial Events last Thursday.

The results from race 1 are as follows: 1st - Paul Kennedy, Team Skyline, 35.23; 2nd -Derek Cullen, Black House Racing: 38.28; 3rd - Niall McCarron, Tralee Manor West, 41.57; 4th - David Donavan, Upperchurch/Drombane CC, 42.43; 5th - Liam Callaghan, North Tipp Wheelers: 45.13; 6th - Liam Kennedy, Greenmount: 45.15; 7th - Ailbe Ryan, Black House Racing: 45.17; 8th - Joe Clohessy, Upperchurch/Drombane CC, 46.34.

The event draws cycling enthusiasts from long distance to Nenagh over the six consecutive Thursday evenings. Registration and sign on is online at https://eventmaster.ie/event/z1VmuPYSQJ.

Racing commences from the former Five Alley Pub on the N7, along the cycleway from 7.00pm with cyclists being let off at two-minute intervals. Cyclists will head out into the prevailing wind towards Limerick until the Birdhill Roundabout where they will turn back to the finish line where it all stared at the Five Alley. In total the distance covered will be 30km and cyclists expected to average 40km per hour.

Cycling Ireland said that the Nenagh route along the old N7 utilising the Cycleway was one of the best routes in Europe and certainly in Ireland and praised Tipperary County Council for their vision in having installed the cycleway.

North Tipperary Wheelers have also proved themselves to have been excellent hosts and organisers in having hosted several Munster and National Time Trial events over the years.

This year, NTW have teamed up with local business man Timmy Crowe of Just Race Events who is providing the Timing chips and start/finish line technology.

Liam Callaghan of NTW said: “T__he event is not just for cyclists and we welcome the support and encouragement of the local communities to come out and cheer on the cyclist’s as they pass”.
