Sinn Féin reorganising in North Tipp

New members welcome to join

Sinn Féin in Tipperary North have recently held their inaugural AGM in the Nenagh Arts Centre.

This move comes as part of a strategic re-structuring of the party in the county. The party’s recent General Election candidate, Dan Harty from Thurles was elected chair of the newly established Tipperary North Comhairle Dáil Ceantair with Nenagh Local Election candidate, Damien O Donoghue elected as Vice-Chair.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Harty said: “I’m honoured to have been selected for this role and I’m extremely motivated to head up the work of building the party into a political force in this constituency. 2024 was a challenging year for Sinn Féin in Tipperary, particularly in the north. Having said that, one in 10 people gave the party a first preference vote in the General Election in November.

“This gives us a solid foundation to build on and we are committed, motivated and confident that we can form a formidable organisation locally that will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.”

Mr Harty continued: “We are organising in communities right across the constituency and I would like to make a direct appeal to people to come and join us. We are currently welcoming new members into the party and anyone who aspires to the goal of a true Irish Republic, one that is united, rooted in equality and that serves the true interests of the Irish people, should get in contact with us right away.”

Nenagh’s Damien O Donoghue concluded: “Easter is an important time for Irish Republicans and over the coming week our activists will be out doing our annual Easter Lily campaign and we would like to thank the public for your continued support.

“On Easter Sunday, we will remember the sacrifice of our 1916 leaders at the Stoneman Statue in Thurles at 12pm and in Banba Square in Nenagh at 3pm. All welcome; bígí linn.”
