Calls for bus service to Nenagh hospital

Hopes are that there could soon be a bus service from Nenagh’s town centre to the local hospital for patients visiting clinics.

At the April meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District authority, a move was made by the two Labour Party councillors to have the service extended to the hospital.

A motion, submitted by Cathaoirleach Cllr Fiona Bonfield and Cllr Louise Morgan Walsh, stated: “We are asking Nenagh Municipal District Council to call on Transport For Ireland to locate a Local Link bus stop at Nenagh General Hospital to cater for patients needing to attend at the hospital.

“At present the Local Link service stops at Nenagh Railway Station, meaning patients have to walk to the hospital and back.”

Cllr Morgan Walsh said that as someone who worked in the hospital, she was aware that there was a great need for such a service, particularly for elderly people who currently have to walk from the railway station to the hospital to get treatment or visit family and friends in the hospital.

She said people who will be visiting the new multi-million euro primary care centre across the road from the hospital, currently under construction, would also benefit from the extension of the bus service.
