Tipp decide against McCarthy appeal
By Shane Brophy
Tipperary’s senior hurling management have decided not to lodge an appeal over Darragh McCarthy’s red card in Sunday’s Munster Senior Hurling Championship defeat to Cork.
The nineteen-year-old was sent off after just 53 seconds of the game at SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh after he was observed by line umpire of striking out at Cork’s Sean O’Donoghue during a heated start to the game with numerous skirmishes going on throughout the field at the throw-in.
A one match ban for striking with minimum force is the sanction proposed by Croke Park and means he will miss the round 3 clash with Clare in Ennis on Saturday week, but will be available for the Munster Under 20 Hurling final the following Wednesday and the final senior round robin game at home to Waterford on Sunday, 18th May.
