Tim Cullinan elected President of the IFA
Toomevara farmer Tim Cullinan has been elected President of the Irish Farmers Association.
The former Chairman of North Tipperary IFA has a pig farm at Ballymackey. Mr Cullinan, a married father of two, has led several IFA campaigns since the mid-2000s. His track record includes successful initiatives to resolve the national dioxin crisis and ensure a better deal for pig farming. He also drove a high-profile campaign to redress disproportionate farm inspections and fines in Tipperary.
Speaking following his election win last night, Mr Cullinan said that his priorities during his presidency would be addressing the beef crisis as well as CAP reform and environmental restrictions. As head of the association's 72,000 members, he said the focus of his presidency would be to ensure that farmers get "their fair share of income".
Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed has congratulated Mr Cullinan on his election win.
