Nenagh Ormond’s poor run of form in the All Ireland League continued with a fifth successive defeat, this time to Tipperary rivals Cashel last Friday night.
Nenagh went into this game badly needing a win to restore some confidence following narrow defeats in their last two games. In both of those games they looked like winning until the concession of late tries against UL Bohemians & Dolphin proved to be costly. Nenagh’s sole win was the opening day victory over Rainey Old Boys and they needed some confidence heading towards the Christmas break.
Cashel on the other hand were lying third in the table, coming off the back of an away win in Ballymena in round 6. When the sides last met in the Munster Senior Cup match in Nenagh in September, Nenagh squandered a 14-point lead when conceding three second half tries to allow Cashel progress in that competition.
Nenagh visiting Cashel is always enough motivation for the home side who relish these types of derby games, and the final score does not reflect their total superiority in the contest with Nenagh’s sole try coming from Josh Rowland in the very last play of the game when the match was effectively over.
A decent home crowd turned out on a cold but fine night to witness their team give a clinical composed performance which got them the league points and they were deserving winners.
Nenagh’s backline was unchanged from the Dolphin match but there some notable changes in the pack. Keith Quigley moved from the back-row to partner Kevin O’Flaherty in the second-row with Jake O’Kelly dropping to the replacements. John Healy returned from suspension to the back row replacing injured captain John Hayes.
