Groups and individuals from all counties to take part in this important census on youth arts.

Survey on young people taking part in the arts

An ambitious attempt to capture an accurate snapshot of thousands of individuals and groups involved in youth arts across the country in January is taking place as part of a major 2020 census led by University College Cork and the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) – which represents organisations working with over 380,000 young people.
Youth groups, youth arts practitioners, and anyone participating in youth arts in youth work settings, are being encouraged to make sure their work is counted in the first ever mapping of arts provision in youth work settings.
Anne O'Gorman of the NYCI said: "We are calling from groups and individuals from all counties to take part in this important census on youth arts. As well as helping us profile your work locally, this study will capture an accurate picture of youth arts in youth work settings nationally, and will support policy recommendations for more and better youth arts provision."
Census week is currently underway and runs until Sunday, February 2nd.
This National Mapping of Youth Arts Provision will provide data and evidence on young people’s engagement with the arts in youth work settings across the country. Alongside the research, an online map of practice will be developed, to showcase the work of each organisation.
All participants will be entered into a draw for a number of mini grants to be used by the organisation to engage an artist on a small project or buy a piece of equipment. A national conference to launch the research, curated by young people and spotlighting their contribution to youth arts policy in Ireland will be held in late April.
