David Power set to be named as Tipperary Senior Football manager

2011 All Ireland winning minor football manager David Power looks set to be given the reigns to the senior football team after he was put forward for ratification by the Tipperary Football Committee on Monday night.

Power's nomination was due to be discussed by the executive of Tipperary County Board last night (Tuesday) with club delegates set to rubber-stamp the appointment at the September County Board meeting which is due to be held next Tuesday.

Power, from Kilsheelan/Kilcash, will get a two year term and will be joined in his management team my Charlie McGeever who managed Tipperary to an All Ireland minor final appearance in 2015 and Clonmel Commercials to a Munster Club title in the same year.

Fellow Donegal native Michael McGeehin also returns to the Tipperary scene as head coach after previously being involved in a similar capacity during Peter Creedon's term from 2012-2015 and brings a great knowledge in coaching as the current director of Sports Coaching Ireland based at the University of Limerick.

Tipperary will be hoping to garner some of the knowledge that has made Dublin such a footballing force with Paddy Christie also forming part of the management team in a coaching capacity.

Christie, an All Ireland senior championship winner with Dublin in 1995 and All Star full back in 2002, has strong Tipperary links with his mother Kathleen nee Sherlock, hailing from Lorrha.

He is lauded for starting the coaching revolution in his native Ballymun Kickhams club who went onto win the 2013 County senior title for the first time in 27 years, and has produced the likes of James McCarthy, Philly McMahon, Dean Rock, and John & Paddy Small to the five-in-a-row senior football All Ireland champions in recent years, while Christie was also Dublin minor manager for a spell.

Former Clare goalkeeper Joe Hayes will also be involved as goalkeeping coach while Tommy Toomey returns as video analyst following stints with Laois and Wicklow over the last two seasons.
