Fourth time lucky for Toomevara
Toomevara 3-21
Shannon Rovers 0-7
by Rose Mannion at The Ragg
The long wait came to an end on Sunday afternoon for Toomevara when they took hold of the Junior ‘A’ Championship title at the fourth attempt by overwhelming Shannon Rovers in the final.
Toomevara, who had been defeated in the final in each of the last three years, were fully focused on ensuring this was going to be there day as they produced an excellent performance as they brushed the challenge aside of their North rivals with ease.
Shannon Rovers just couldn’t rise to the occasion at all as they are a far better team than this but sadly they didn’t do themselves justice on this occasion. This was a tough defeat for the Rovers but they can take the experience from the game as they have some fine young players coming up who know the level they must reach to win such finals and that gift only comes from hard work at the game.
Jill Ann Quirke and Aoife Ryan were to the fore for Toomevara, notching 2-12 between them with Mags Quigley, Laura Young, Bonnie Kennedy and Moira Ryan keeping quality ball delivered to the forwards in a fine team display.
