Excitement building as trap draw made for the Irish St. Leger in Limerick

Excitement is building in Greenpark as the Irish St. Leger returns to Limerick Greyhound Stadium this weekend.

60 greyhounds will compete over 10 first round heats on Saturday, October 6th, with the first four plus the eight fastest finishing fifths qualifying for the second round.

The St Leger is one of 14 ‘Classic’ races on the Irish greyhound calendar and one of two held in Limerick, along with the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial Stake.

Racing manager with Limerick Greyhound Stadium, Liam Kennedy, commented: “The next five Saturdays will be packed with high quality racing here at Greenpark. Many St Leger winners and finalists have gone on to compete in Derby finals thereafter. The Irish St. Leger has been a tradition in the racing calendar here in Limerick, right from its very first run here in 1940 to what will be the 86th renewal this year. We’re very proud to continue that tradition.”

He added: “The trap draw being made just makes the excitement even greater. Owners, trainers and racing fans alike are all looking forward to Saturday, as are we. It will be an action packed month here in Limerick during October, culminating in the St Leger final in the first weekend of November.”

The Irish St. Leger will continue each Saturday over the coming five weeks, with the Final on Saturday, November 3rd. The stadium restaurant and admission packages are available to book now for all stages of the competition, including the final.
