Conference on challenges facing dairy farming
Exploring solutions to and the reality of challenges facing the dairy industry, not least around sustainability, will be explored on Tuesday night, January 28th, with a range of experts in the space set to address farmers at a major Arrabawn conference.
The Arrabawn Dairy Conference, which will be held at the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh will be an opportunity for attendees to learn about the biggest issues facing dairy farming today and solutions to tackle them.
The line-up of well-known experts will include Jack Nolan, Senior Inspector at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for Nitrates and Biodiversity; Trevor Donnellan, Teagasc economist; Conor Mulvihill, Director Dairy Industries Ireland and Dr Paddy Wall, Professor of Public Health UCD.
Arrabawn CEO Conor Ryan said: “Sustainability is one of the biggest and most talked about issues facing industry today and, not least, the dairy sector. We are on record as a co-op for a number of years now regarding sustainability concerns due to the very significant increase in volumes coming through following the abolition of quota. We all know there are challenges but it is time to find solutions. And there will also undoubtedly be opportunities. This conference is about exploring all of these and advancing how we can marry the expansion in the industry with the need to tackle climate change.”
He added: “Arrabawn takes sustainability very seriously. We have invested heavily ourselves in our operations to reduce the carbon footprint of our co-op and, indeed of our members. We are focussed on solutions and our members are likewise so we are really looking forward to this event and hearing from these experts.”
The event starts at 7.30pm and is free.
