North clubs keen to retain divisional senior championships
North Tipperary GAA clubs have begun the process of analysing what changes can be made to improve the provision of regular games for players going forward.
Ahead of the GAA's Special Congress next week and with proposals on the table from the Tipperary County Board's Strategic Planning Committee, North Chairman Dan Kennedy convened a special divisional board meeting to discuss them last Wednesday.
With next years All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship structure set to change in some shape or form following special congress, and with the Senior Football Championship having a Super 8 system for the quarter finals, it means a restructuring of club competitions in most counties is likely.
The proposals from the strategic planning committee suggest a 16 team senior hurling championship (similar to the Dan Breen Cup) with a new 16 team Premier Intermediate championship (in place of the Seamus O Riain Cup) with a another 16 team intermediate championship. However the kernal would be that divisional championships would be completely separate from the county championship.
