Increase in planning applications in Nenagh district
Nenagh Municipal District Council received a 41% increase in valid planning applications between June and October 2015 compared to the same period last year.
A total of 125 valid applications were received between June and December last year, while 244 were received up the end of October this year. Of the applications received this year, permission was granted in 198 cases and refused in eight, with 85 granted and 15 refused last year.
Commenting on the figures at a recent meeting of the council, Director of Services Karl Cashen welcomed increased planning activity in the agricultural sector.
Cllr Mattie Ryan (FF) called for “common sense” planning in relation to farming, while Cllr Michael O'Meara (Ind) wanted the council to write to the Government regarding the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS II). He and Cllr Ger Darcy (FG) said farmers want to have inspections hurried up before up the calving season.
Meanwhile, Cllr Phyll Bugler (FG) asked the council to seek another Special Resolution Fund to expedite the taking in charge of private estates.
