FAI funding and local clubs
Councillors have expressed concern over the potential impact of the FAI funding crisis on local soccer clubs.
At the December meeting of Thurles Municipal District, several speakers praised the work of FAI Development Officer James Scott in North Tipperary and of the progress made by many clubs in recent years. Cllr Jim Ryan (Ind) sought clarity over whether the situation faced by the FAI nationally would impact on local clubs in 2020. “It's very important that the good work continues,” Cllr Ryan told the meeting.
Cllr Micheál Lowry (Ind) said local clubs could not afford any delay in funding and Tipperary Co Council would have to be able to adapt to the situation. He proposed that the council should become a facilitator of any funding that becomes available.
Council officer Dan Downey said the national picture is changing all the time but the council is flexible with regard to what is required. He agreed that there is a “huge amount going on” with regard to soccer clubs in North Tipperary.
