Ardcroney push Borroway hard in Cup semi-final

Borroway Rovers booked their place in the final of the Tipperary Cup with a 3-1 win away to Ardcroney on Sunday afternoon.

The Thurles side were red hot favourites heading into this game having run Nenagh Celtic close in the Premier division title race and dispatching Rearcross in the quarter final last weekend.

Ardcroney on the other hand have endured a difficult league campaign in the second tier with this Tipperary Cup run providing a silver lining to their season.

Rovers started strongly and went in front through Seamus Woodlock inside twenty minutes. Ardcroney matched their favoured opponents for the rest of the opening half and Rover’s lead remained at the minimum heading into the break.

Early in the second half Ardcroney drew level with Kieran Spain finding the net. This goal seemed to energise Rovers and they stepped up a gear, eventually retaking the lead through Shane Dunne on the hour mark.

The game was still in the balance but Borroway were certainly the stronger, with the post and crossbar both saving Ardcroney. However, with ten minutes remaining Borroway were awarded a penalty, which was duly converted by Darren McGuire to secure the win for Paul Gould’s side.
