The development was part of a planned multi-million euro investment on the Abbey Court site.

Plan for houses on Dublin Road

The prospect of new private housing coming on stream at Dublin Road, Nenagh, is in the pipeline following a planning application made to Tipperary County Council.
As demand for both private and social and affordable housing grows in the town, Rejjy Property Holdings Ltd has submitted an application to the local authority seeking planning permission for the material change of use of 14 existing three-storey holiday homes adjacent to the Abbey Court Hotel to private dwellings.
The plan, if it gets the green light, will also involve the construction of new metal railings to enclose front gardens of the properties.
Also envisaged under the planned project are hard and soft landscaping works, the provision of external lighting and associated site works.
The planning application may be inspected or purchased at the council headquarters at the Civic Offices at Limerick Road, Nenagh.
Indeed, the area around the hotel could well become a much wider new residential area as the council has already granted conditional permission to a company called Eko Integrated Services Ltd for the development of 36 residential units on a vacant site behind the hotel.
That company plans to build 16 semi-detached three-bedroom two-storey houses and eight three-bedroom two-storey terraced houses, along with 12 two-bedroom apartments over four storeys.
The works already granted permission include the development of new entrance gates and an access road to the existing holiday homes behind the hotel.
The site for the new houses is bordered to the east by the existing holiday houses and to the west by the old Lidl, now Homesavers supermarket site.
It is understood that the developer will provide three units to the council for social housing in accordance with Part V of the Planning & Development Act.
An Ennis-based partnership, Eko Integrated Services had also sought to build 32 houses at Cloneygowney, Portroe, but that application was withdrawn earlier in the year.
Local TD Alan Kelly has already welcomed the granting of planning permission for the new housing in Nenagh, which he said would form part of a plan to enhance the general area around the hotel site.
He said the development was part of a planned multi-million euro investment on the Abbey Court site.
