For the second year running, St. Mary’s Secondary School Nenagh were denied a coveted Munster Colleges 'B' title, finding themselves outclassed by a polished St Mary's Midleton side on Saturday, which seemed almost unaffected by the adverse weather conditions.

The scars of last season’s Munster Final defeat to St. Flannan’s, and the subsequent All-Ireland Final loss to Castlecomer have probably increased the fortitude of this Nenagh team, but in reality, no amount of resilience could have overcome Midleton.

They dominated from the throw-in, swarming the Nenagh goal by pushing their own half-back line further and further up the field, thus concentrating play inside the danger zone and converting opportunities to scores. That proficiency in front of the posts was exemplified most by Midleton’s chief operating forward, Ali Smith, who ended the game with a haul of twelve points, eight from play.
