Brendan Maher

Brendan hoping to storm Croke Park once more

Storm Brendan may have rolled through Tipperary on Monday last but a Brendan of a different kind has been causing mayhem of a different kind in recent weeks.

And Borris-Ileigh will be hoping Brendan Maher has one more big performance in him when they line out against Ballyhale Shamrocks in the All Ireland Senior Club Hurling final on Sunday.

By his own standards, some of Brendan's performances post Tipperary's All Ireland success weren't anything to write home about but come the Munster club final and All Ireland semi-final, the 31-year-old wasn't found wanting with performances that will only add to his legendary status.

All Ireland medals at three different levels of minor, under 20 and senior is indeed rare for a Tipperary man but to add an All Ireland senior club one with his beloved Borris-Ileigh would make him stand out on his own. So did he ever think this chance would come to emulate the All Ireland winning team of 1987.

Definitely not,” he said.

I won’t say I was happy with the county final, when you get that you kind of start looking forward again, but it was always, ‘Winning a county final with Borris would be unbelievable’.

“You only had a week to turn around then against Glen Rovers and it just seems like a bit of a wave since then. “It’s been one thing after another, not really overthinking it too much, just enjoying the games.
