Medals galore for Irish Taekwondo Academy team

The Irish Taekwondo Academy team from Ballina/Killaloe and Nenagh travelled to the British Open Taekwondo Championships in Manchester on 23rd & 24th November.

On day one, students took part in the Poomsae section of the competition demonstrating patterns before high ranking Masters and Grandmasters with the local team winning 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze in the individual category.

The club also entered two teams into the team Poomsae section and we took home silver and bronze medals.

Kaitlyn Ni Dhonnacha, who trains in the Nenagh and Killaloe centres won gold in the individual Poomsae and also in the Champion of Champions section where all winners of each section playoff in an overall best Poomsae. This is an amazing achievement for Kaitlyn who is just eleven-years-old.

On day two, the club started with its first two fighters, Dwane Byrnes and Lee Sund Joyce taking home gold after some amazing fights.

There were also medals won by: Gold – Oliwia Tchorz; Silver - Mark Lynch, Nichola Kavanagh, May Byrnes and Antonina Jankowska while Kaitlyn Ni Dhonnacha added a bronze medal to the two golds won on the first day.
