Morris retains Nenagh Snooker Open title

 

Davy Morris claimed the Nenagh Open Snooker title for the fourth title, and completed a three-in-a-row at another successful tournament held last weekend.

The Kilkenny came out on top of a stellar 32 man field in the knockout tournament which is fast becoming one of the most popular events on the national amateur circuit.

In the quarter finals, Morris accounted for New Institute club chairman and Munster Masters champion Tony Seymour 4-0 while recent UK Open Senior winner Michael Judge was also an emphatic winner of this clash with Stephen Bateman 4-0.

Former European Doubles champion Ryan Cronin also made the semi-finals following a 4-2 win over Dylas Rees who was part of the Ireland winning Home International team this year.

And of course, Nenagh's own number one ranked player in Ireland Brendan O'Donoghue progressed with an impressive 4-1 win over he number one ranked senior amateur in the world Rodney Goggins.

In the semi-final, David Morris easily defeated Michael Judge 4-0 while Brendan O'Donoghue lost out 4-3 to Ryan Cronin with the decisive frame going down to the final black.

The final was extended to a best of nine frame match with Davy Morris pushed hard all the way by Cronin before emerging winner on a 5-3 scoreline.
