Sheedy pleased by what he got

Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy admitted he got what he wanted from Sunday’s one-sided victory over Westmeath in Thurles.

“I’m very happy to get the win,” he began.

“The game was nip and tuck for the first ten minutes but we started to find our flow from there until the end of the first half and had 2-14 on the board going in at the break and were very happy with that.

“Some of our passages of play throughout that first half were very likeable, when we worked the ball through the lines and found the right men we were impressive but some aspects of our play in the first half we wouldn’t be happy with but we did give ourselves the platform to win the game in the first half.

“Once the sending off took place in the second half the game petered out.

“We’ve got a win on the board and boosted our score difference and are somewhat back in the league.”

Westmeath were quite competitive early on and but for a Brian Hogan save would have taken a shock lead but from the tenth minute to half time, Tipp took full control scoring 2-14 but their workrate was also to a high level as they created a barrier around the middle of the field through which Westmeath’s running game struggled to break through.
