A ‘major blow’ for Lough Derg tourism

The Aqua Splash water park in Dromineer is set to close from today (July 13th) due to an inability to secure insurance for the business.

Deputy Jackie Cahill will be raising this issue in the Dáil this week and is in contact with Minister of State with responsibility for Insurance, Seán Felming. Cahill has described the sudden closure of Aqua Splash Dromineer as a ‘major blow’ for tourism around the lake, during a summer when hospitality and tourism locally desperately need a busy holiday season.

Speaking, after receiving news of the imminent closure today, Deputy Cahill said: “I am very disappointed to hear of the almost immediate closure of Aqua Splash in Dromineer. This has come about due to the business failing to get insurance cover through no fault of their own.

“This summer, we need our tourism and hospitality industries to thrive, especially outdoor activities. Aqua Splash Dromineer has an exceptional record of safety, a well-trained and professional staff, offering much needed activities on Lough Derg this summer for families holidaying at home.

“This sudden closure will come as a blow to local tourism and will leave a great number of families very disappointed to see their holiday plans quickly disappear in front of them. It is also a difficult day for the staff and management of Aqua Splash, many of whom are young people working a summer job after the Leaving Cert or during college holidays.

“I will be raising this issue and the lack of insurance cover for this business and industry generally in the Dáil this week and I will continue to keep in contact with both Minister Fleming and Aqua Splash Dromineer management to see what solutions can be reached as a matter of priority for the area, for this business and local employer,” Deputy Cahill concluded.
