Public enjoy local ‘works of art’ exhibition

Hundreds of art enthusiasts have been strolling the tranquil setting of the Pollaghs road at Birdhill, admiring and enjoying the unique collection of paintings on display in an exhibition of work in an unusual setting.

Over the past two weeks there has been a steady stream of visitors to the area for the ‘Art in the Pollaghs’ Exhibition, an innovative exhibition of artistic work being held for the first time.

The area was particularly busy over the holiday weekend as individuals and families viewed the work and enjoyed the walk in the tranquil countryside. Those interested have a further 10 days to view the work with the exhibition scheduled to end on August 15, following which the result of the visitors vote on their choice of painting will be announced as well as a number of other category awards.

A project of Birdhill Tidy Village Committee, they report that interest in the exhibition has far exceeded their expectations and many have been returning for a second and third viewing.

The 50 paintings on display along the country road are mounted on posts and each include details of the painting and the identity of the artist.

The initiative was the brainchild of local artist, Australian born Mellissa Ryan, who has been residing in the Birdhill area with her Birdhill born husband Paddy Ryan for a number of years.

The paintings on exhibition were chosen from a large entry of work by individuals, groups, and students of local schools and colleges who have set a very high standard in their “works of art”.
