Warning over phone scam after €18k stolen in Nenagh

Gardaí in Nenagh have issued another appeal for people to be wary of phishing scams following another incident in the locality, this time amounting to a loss of €18,000.

The incident, which happened in the Nenagh area, was reported on Tuesday of last week. It is understood that the victim replied to a text message purportedly sent by their bank. The injured party followed a link and the culprits succeeded in taking a sum of €18,000 from the account.

Gardaí are asking people to be mindful that incidents of this nature have become very commonplace. There have been several similar incidents in the district over recent weeks, including another one involving a smaller amount in the Nenagh area last week.

OTHER CRIME MATTERS

Also last week, gardaí are investigating a burglary in which a number of items were stolen from a shed at Cudville, Nenagh. A set of golf clubs was stolen in the incident, which happpened overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyone who might have seen anything suspicious at the time is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station. An attempted burglary at Abbey St, Nenagh, is also under investigation. A door was damaged in an attempt to break into the premises at around 2.30am last Sunday.

Three male motorists were arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Nenagh town over the last week. One was arrest was made at Pound Lane on Friday night, the second was at Dromin Road on Sunday while the third occurred on Pearse St in the early hours of Monday morning.
