Nenagh bus for Ukraine
Plans are in train to send a 52-seater bus from Nenagh to the Ukraine-Polish border next week to transport Ukrainian refugees back to North Tipperary.
A Nenagh couple, Brian Lacey and his girlfriend Denise Hogan, are co-ordinating the initiative and have set up a GoFundMe page in the hope of raising funds to fill the bus with aid supplies on the outward journey and to transport refugees back to Ireland on the return journey.
Mr Lacey said Callanan Coaches, a company based in The Ragg, Thurles, has offered a bus for the mercy mission. He said companies and individuals in the Nenagh area had responded very positively to the aid appeal.
“We’re hoping that the bus can leave Nenagh on Tuesday next but that will depend on logistics and whether a ferry company can accommodate us,” said Mr Lacey.
He revealed that the plan was to drop off the aid at the Polish-Ukraine border and fill the bus with refugees, who would be transported back to Ireland, some, hopefully, to Nenagh and surrounding areas depending on suitable accommodation being found.
Anyone who wishes do donate supplies can contact Denis Hogan at 086-1226321.
