'Reeling in the Musicals' at Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré

School musical: Well done to our fantastic cast of ‘Reeling in the Musicals’, who entertained audiences on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 15 and 16, along with a matinee for our own students on Wednesday 16. They recalled all of our previous 11 musicals and gave a vibrant and energetic performance for all. Many thanks to our production team of Ms O'Donoghue, Ms Dempsey and Mr Maher.

Also, huge thanks to all staff and students, who helped out with the stage, props, costumes, hall, shop, etc. Many thanks to our sponsors for hampers, scaffold hire, props, etc. Sincere thanks to everyone for helping out with all aspects. It was a great team effort and a wonderful showcase of the talent in Coláiste. We are already looking forward to what next year may bring!

Best wishes: We send our best wishes to Fifth Year LCA student Kuany De Silva, who is leaving us to return to her native Brazil. She has been a wonderful student in Coláiste and we will miss her excellent work ethic and bubbly personality. We wish her all the very best for the future as she returns to Brazil with her father to join family members.

Trip to Romeo and Juliet: On Tuesday, March 15 our Third Years attended a production of Romeo and Juliet staged by the UCD Drama Society in Astra Hall on the University Campus in Dublin. The production moved from the traditional Verona, Italy to Verona nightclub in a lively modern interpretation of the famous Shakespearean play. The play was entertaining, engaging and thought-provoking.

As this is the penultimate year for the play on the Junior Cycle course there was something of an “end of an era” feel to the performance. Our students found the whole experience very valuable and it will undoubtedly help with exam preparations. Thanks to all the teachers who accompanied the students on the trip.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: Many thanks to all students and staff who organised and took part in Seachtain na Gaeilge activities. We had First Year musicians playing at lunchtime and dancers in the social area, along with dancing the dreoilín and watching educational documentaries in classes.

Flag ceremony: Many thanks to the History Department for organising a very meaningful flag ceremony. Thanks to our heads girl Caoimhe Flannery and head boy Mark Fogarty for doing MC for the occasion, and Caoimhe for playing the National Anthem. Thanks to teacher Captain Michael Boyle for raising the flag and reading the Proclamation, Fr Lorcan for giving a blessing, Principal Mr Flynn for addressing all assembled, Ciara Ormond, Deputy Principal and all students and staff present.

Students on Offaly All Ireland winning team: Congrats to Orlagh Phelan, Fifth Year (Offaly Captain), Ciara Maher, TY and Nicola Cleary, Third Year, who are on the Offaly minor Camogie team that won the All Ireland Camogie Minor B title against Laois. This is a great achievement for the girls.

Slieve Bloom hike: On Monday, March 21, our TYs went on a hike of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. They hiked 15km and we were delighted to have three guides from the Slieve Bloom walking group, who gave excellent guidance and history along the way. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and thanks to all the teachers who accompanied the students on the hike.

School golf: A great day was had by Coláiste Phobal students on Thursday, March 24, at Roscrea Golf Club. Again, sincere thank you to the club for allowing our student members avail of the wonderful facility.
