Call to reinstate Nenagh bus service
Bus Éireann is continuing to assess the market amid calls to reinstate its Shannon Airport-Dublin Airport via Nenagh service.
In correspondence with Nenagh Municipal District this month, Bus Éireann stated that it has increased connectivity between Nenagh and Limerick with its new 323 service, which operates seven days a week. Having withdrawn a number of national services with the onset of the pandemic, the carrier said it is optimistic that the public will return to using buses on a more frequent basis. It identified particular demand from third level students.
Cllr Ger Darcy said the bottom line is that the X12 route to Dublin has not been reinstated, despite demand for it. He said there have been occasions where people were unable to get on a bus, and that a review is needed of bus and train transport needs in the Nenagh area.
Cllr Séamie Morris said the 323 service has been successful, and it has been suggested to him that a bus stop outside Nenagh at Hogan's Pass would be useful. Cllr Morris said he has also been told that sometimes Bus Éireann buses don't turn up; perhaps a tracking system could be devised to assist passengers, he suggested.
Cllr Michael O'Meara proposed a presentation from Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann over timetabling. The present train timetable servicing Nenagh is "totally unsatisfactory", he said.
