John Fox commemoration at Finnoe graveyard last Sunday week.

Finnoe graveyard commemoration

Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society held a commemoration of the death of John Fox at Finnoe graveyard on Sunday, March 27.

The event was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Terryglass native John Fox, who fought with the local Volunteers during the War of Independence. He died at the age of 18, after a brief illness, in Crinkle Barracks, Birr, and was buried with full military honours in the family plot at Finnoe graveyard, Kilbarron, on Sunday, March 26, 1922.

It was a beautiful day at the graveyard last Sunday week, 100 years exactly to the day he was buried there in 1922.

Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society's April talk will be held by Zoom this Friday, April 8, at 8pm. The subject is Formation of the Landscape from the Ice Age to the Present Day, with Mr Jimmy Duggan, Thurles.

This promises to be a very interesting talk, looking at the formation of the landscape of Ireland from the Ice Age right up to the present day. It gives us a glimpse to the changes in our landscape in our countryside, and touches on the formation of the formal garden also. Join the talk at https://bit.ly/AprilTalk_KilbarronTerryglass.
