Division 3

Burgess 2-17 Lorrha 2-19

David Fogarty’s goal five minutes into added time helped Lorrha come from behind to defeat Burgess in Kilcolman on Saturday evening.

Scores were level thirteen times, six in the first half with never more than four points separating the teams. That margin came in the 13th minute when Martin Gorman scored Lorrha’s first goal. Seconds later David Fogarty’s long-range score had Lorrha four in front.

But with Stephen Murray, doing what he does best, scoring his fifth point to leave the home side three adrift after twenty minutes. Both Cian Hogan and Eoin Hogan swapped scores before Eoin Grace had Burgess level with a goal in the 26th minute after he was set up by a swift Donagh Maher pass.

Niall McIntyre edged Lorrha in front. Stephen Murray had Burgess level, but points through Niall McIntyre and Darragh Guinan saw the Blues 1-11 to 1-9 in front at the break.

The second half was barely a minute old when Eoin Grace had his second goal. Cian Hogan levelled with his third point, finishing with seven from play, his last coming in the 52nd when he matched Tony Dunne’s well-taken point to bring parity for the twelfth time. Burgess went two in front thanks to a Stephen Murray sixty-five and Stephen Kirwan from play, but Lorrha were soon back level with Christopher Fogarty from play and Michael Dolan from a free as the game reached the 62nd minute mark.

One minute later Stephen Murray scored again, and so we thought it would be the winner, but Lorrha staged one last attack when David Fogarty found the net in the 65th minute for the winner.

Cappawhite 2-15 Shannon Rovers 0-12

Two first half goals helped Cappawhite secure their first win of the league with a comfortable nine-point win over injury hit Shannon Rovers at Cappawhite on Sunday.

Those goals from Ciaran Doody in the 16th minute and Gearoid Lennon close to half time was the difference in the opening half as Cappawhite led 2-6 to 0-6 at the turnover. Ryan Doody had scored four of those points (3 from play) while Conal Moran (4 frees) and Sean Moran, two from play wrapped up the Rovers half dozen.

Four minutes into the second half, Gearoid Lennon increased the margin seven before the teams took it turns to score with Conal Moran and Ryan Doody trading frees. Moran added another free but points from Lennon and Ryan Rehehan increased the home side’s lead to eight on the three-quarter way mark.

George Hannigan reduced the margin to seven but by the 50th minute the margin was gone out to nine as Ryan Doody (2) plus another from play by Ryan Renehan had scored for Cappawhite while Conal Moran kept Rovers within sight of the leaders thanks to two pointed frees.

Then Moran helped brought them much closer with two more frees but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Cappawhite hit the home straight with three unanswered points to win their first game of the league as they sit in fourth position on three points, one behind Rovers.

Riain Doody was Cappawhite top scorer on 0-8 with while Conal Moran went one better for Rovers with nine points and all from frees.
