Nenagh Warriors O’Meara in international Basketball action
Nenagh Warriors Basketball Club’s Fionn O’Meara was in action for the Ireland Under 16 Boys team in the Dussman Trophy in Luxembourg last weekend.
The competition brings together teams from the top two divisions of European basketball, giving Ireland a great chance to compete at a high level. The 2022 edition consisted of Ireland, Portugal, Netherlands, Romania, and hosts Luxembourg. It’s the seventh year in succession that Irish coaching teams have used this platform as part of their summer preparations.
Ireland went into the tournament in good form, having been runners-up in the Four Nations Tournament in Scotland a few weeks ago, having narrowly lost out on the title to England.
Ireland faced Romania, Portugal & Luxembourg over the weekend, with Fionn O’Meara playing in the games against Portugal & Luxembourg.
Fionn got on the scoreboard during the game against Luxembourg and had a very strong period on rebounds in both games. Ireland took to win 80-69 against Luxembourg but came up short 67-73 against Portugal.
Well done to Fionn and the Irish team and coaching staff on a great weekend of basketball.
The event is being used as an important steppingstone towards the FIBA European Championships. The Ireland teams focus is firmly on Bulgaria, where they will face Germany, Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania, and Finland in August 11th.
