Nenagh LTC Senior Open Week Premier Women’s Singles: Tanya Cox (Winner), Michael Gilmartin (President), Deirdre McSherry (Runner Up).

Phelan and Cox win Nenagh Open Tennis titles

Conor Phelan (Abbeyleix) and Tanya Cox (Limerick Lawn) won the respective premier singles titles at the AIB Championships at Nenagh Lawn Tennis Club last week.

The tournament, attracted really big entry of 364 players, and from a tournament perspective it was particularly pleasing to see so many players drawn from a wide circle of clubs in the various events. Among the counties represented were Clare, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Dublin, Galway, addition to a very big local entry.

Following the finals, Nenagh LTC President Michael Gilmartin thanked the many who assisted in innumerable ways to what he said was a most enjoyable tournament, including in particular sponsors Sharon Finnegan and AIB Nenagh whose invaluable support the club very much appreciates.

Michael also reserved special mention for joint club captains Richelle Treacy and Mattie Ryan and the tournament officials, for their efficient organisation of the tournament which included scheduling 312 matches over the ten days of play. Richelle even found time to step on court herself, in fact winning the ladies Grade 2 doubles, with Patrice Cleary.

Richelle Treacy echoed similar thanks to AIB and all who assisted, and most importantly the players for their understanding and co-operation throughout the ten days of the tournament.
