Ormond Historical Society outing to Lisbunny cemetery

Ormond Historical Society will hold their final outing of the summer on Saturday next, September 3.

The venue is Lisbunny Old Cemetery and the event will be guided by John Flannery. Lisbunny was once a parish in its own right and the ruined church dates from medieval times.

The graveyard has many interesting burials with headstones dating back to the 1700s and also holds the remains of Nenagh people who fought in WWI, the War of Independence and Civil War.

As one of the three older burial grounds in Nenagh, Lisbunny is the traditional burial place of many of Nenagh's older families, who achieved fame at home and abroad.

The walk around Lisbunny Cemetery is free of charge and is open to everyone, starting at 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Meet at the cemetery parking area from 2.15.
