Roundabout will benefit Tipp motorists using N24

Limerick City Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell along with his Fine Gael colleague and Murroe-based, Cllr John Egan have welcomed the commencement of works on the new Beary’s Cross roundabout and road improvement scheme on the N24 (Limerick to Waterford National Road).

Deputy O’Donnell and Cllr John Egan met with contractors Sorensen Civil Engineering Ltd on site last Friday and received a comprehensive overview of construction works now underway on this approximate €4.5 million road project, expected to be completed by June 2023. These works will entail alterations to the present junction layout, the construction of a new section of regional road 513 approach to the junction and the alteration of the existing N24 approaches to the junction.

Deputy O’Donnell said: “On Friday last, my colleague and local Murroe based Councillor, Cllr John Egan and I met with the contractors Sorensen Civil Engineering Ltd on site and observed first-hand the works now underway at the dangerous Beary’s Cross on the N24. While on site, we received a comprehensive overview of the construction works costing €4.5 million approximately, with the contractors confirming that it has an expected completion date of June 2023.

“Along with my colleague Councillor Egan, we have been working tirelessly with Limerick City & County Council over a long period of time to improve road safety on the N24 at Beary’s Cross and greatly welcome the commencement of this vital project. This will entail alterations to the present junction layout, with the building of a new roundabout on the dangerous road as well as other safety alterations including the construction of a new section of regional road 513 (to Caherconlish/Mitchelstown) approach to the junction and the alteration of the existing N24 approaches to the junction."

Councillor John Egan said: “As the local councillor in the area, I am particularly delighted that this crucial road improvement project at Beary’s Cross on the N24 has now began with contractors Sorensen Civil Engineering on site who are delivering this scheme for Limerick City and County Council. I am fully aware of the need to improve the safety at this very busy junction on the N24 and having these significant works now underway and shortly in place is to be greatly welcomed."

Deputy O’Donnell concluded: “We look forward to the new roundabout and junction works taking shape over the coming months and wish to commend Limerick City and County Council for their work to progress this project to construction phase."
