Crews working to repair burst water main

Following a trunk watermain burst, the reservoir supplying customers on the Coalbrook Public Water Supply Scheme has emptied..

The burst is impacting the water supply to customers and businesses in Coalbrook, Kilbraugh, Gurteen, Ballingarry, Earlshill, Tinnock and surrounding areas in Co. Tipperary. An alternative water supply is available at Kilbraugh and Earlshill.

Irish Water’s Colin Cunningham said: “We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work with Tipperary County Council to repair the burst and return the water supply.”

“The Coalbrook scheme was already struggling due to the dry weather, and we have had alternative water supplies in place over the last few weeks. This burst will put the supply under even more pressure now. After the repairs have been completed, supply will start to return to the majority of customers, however, it may take several days for normal supply to return to everyone. For example, customers on higher elevations on the network. Therefore, an alternative water supply will still be made available at Kilbraugh and Earlshill."

“I would like to remind everyone that the water from our tankers must be boiled before use. We will continue to keep the community informed as we work to restore a normal supply.”
