Billy’s Cinema is back!

Local band to perform long-awaited Nenagh gig on December 16

Nenagh band Billy's Cinema have exciting plans for their performance at the Kenyon K2 venue on Friday, December 16, with support from Roscrea's Jack Keeshan.

This is the first live show with Billy's Cinema for founding members Martin Twisty O'Brien and John Cummins since they released their debut single in 2016. In 2017, the band with a different lineup of Sam Martin (bass) and David Spain (drums), recorded a livestream in the Source Arts Centre in Thurles as part of the popular festival ‘Féile Beag’. Since then they have released more singles and music videos as a duo. Until this year, Billy's Cinema were slimmed back to the founding members, Martin and Johnny, in project form again. Between Covid and family commitments, Billy's Cinema took a backseat.

But a new lineup of the band with Patrick O'Connor (drums) and Jimmy Wynne (bass) gave the outfit a new lease of life. John and Twisty have been writing together with the new lineup and rehearsing since January.

In August of this year, Billy's Cinema released a brand-new single called ‘Not the Sun’ with a music video to coincide. The band also released their EP, titled ‘Pictures of Earth from Mars’, on Spotify the same week.

‘Not the Sun’ was played on every national station in Ireland, including 2FM, and reached as far as mainstream radio in the United States, Germany, South Africa, Japan and Australia. Two members of the band did a radio interview with Kansas radio station KDAG via Skype also.

“Paddy and Jimmy are making the band the best it can be, talent-wise and commitment-wise,” said Twisty. “It's just a very exciting lineup that the four of us are very proud of.”

On December 16, Billy's Cinema will play a show in the Kenyon K2. Support on the night will be from Jack Keeshan, who has recently released his ‘Burnt from the Sage’ EP.

Billy's Cinema will on the night also be performing some old Clostridium songs from their early music playing days, which may come as a surprise to some friends and ‘90s music goers. Also on the night, Billy Shoer, a good friend and muse for the band name, will introduce the band on stage.

The band would like to extend the hand of friendship and invite everybody from emo fans, indie fans, alternative fans and rock fans - and to absolutely all music fans - to come and enjoy the gig in the Kenyon. Twisty and John would also like to thank Ashley Holt once again, who drummed on the EP and also the band's first No 1 single, ‘Heartsong’.

Doors on the night will be at 8pm. Ticket price is €10 on the door.
